Tips For Making Your Own Party Invitations At Home
Party-givers have access to a tremendous selection of free printable party invitations in this day and age. It seems like no matter what the occasion, there are free invitation images you can download and print on your own printer. As you would expect, there are plenty of the usual types, such as free birthday invitations. But there are also many free printable invitations that are available for a variety of holidays and quite specific types of parties. For instance, free bon voyage party invites, free pink Quinceanera invitations and many others.
These do-it-yourself invitations are relatively easy to produce if you have a word processing software, like Microsoft Word or Open Office; or a publishing program, like Microsoft Publisher. Simply place the invitation graphic into the program, size it and print as many copies as you want. As easy as that may be, however, you should to be aware of some key elements when producing the invitations. The following tips will help you understand those subtle elements and make the most out of free invitation art:
- When using word processing software program, you can use tables or text boxes to get more than one invitation graphic on a page. This will save card stock and your time. (A table is the easier method of the two. If you’re not proficient with tables or text boxes, check your word processing software’s help materials.) Make sure to match up a minumum of one edge of the invitation art to the other, so you can eliminate one cut.
- When cutting the invitations, the most efficient method is to use a paper cutter. If you don’t have one, hire someone to cut them, either at a print shop, copy center or office supply store. If there isn’t a store with a paper cutter in your area, the next best approach is to use an X-acto knife, ruler and a cutting board. And if nothing else, feel free to use scissors. If you do, draw light lines with a pencil beforehand, so you’ll see where you should cut. If you don’t think you’ll be able to cut straight, you might try using patterned scissors to create a decorative edge that will hide flaws.
- Once the invitations are cut out, you might want to take the extra step of embellishing them. You’ll find a vast array of suitable decorations at your neighborhood craft store. These include stickers, brads, rhinestones, artificial flowers and many other surprising elements you may have never even seen before. You can also use glitter glue or dimensional paint to enhance the design. Be careful with this, however, because less is more when it comes to embellishment. Try using the glue or paint on just the highlights of the design. And you ought to have extra invitations on-hand, so you can try things out a little until you get the look you want.
