MTV Do Not Play Music Any more
MTV have very recently dropped the “Music Television” from their slogan and this was in need of happening because they do not play music any more. MTV seems to love reality television now because that is now all they play with just a couple of hours devoted to music a day. Who actually watched MTV nowadays?
MTV was started in the summer of 1981 in New York, the very first video they played was of course Video Killed The Radio Star. It was the very first time an entire station had been dedicated to music and only music and as you are aware it became a huge success. The MTV video music awards were set up for the very first time in 1984 and have certainly had their fare share of controversial moments from fights to Nirvana choosing to sing the first few lines of Rape Me before going back to the song Lithium. It looks like these awards are one of the only things that actually gets shown on the main channel that have anything to do with music.
The main reason that MTV have actually decided to put down their electric guitars and pick up the more irritating reality shows is simply because more people are searching on the internet for their music now. The main MTV website was updated around this stage and all of their music videos could be viewed online.
To be fair you cannot really argue with what MTV have done because they have many sister channels that they have for fans of anything from classical guitars music to bass guitarsmusic and these seem to play a lot more music than anything else. Many artists believe that the main strength is in the main channel itself and are not happy being pushed onto another channel like MTV2 and various others?
