I agree with Rick, well said.

The only comment I have is that Anderson Cooper's twitter stream is based off an RSS feed for his stories. His real guilty action is not fighting CNN to truly join the conversation instead of just broadcasting information out.

My phone once became the ex-girlfriend hotline at 4AM EST. That is one instance that my policy should have been the refrain of an Amy Winehouse song (Noo, Noo, Noo) but I was too tired and startled to realize what I was doing before the phone was in my hands.

I will have a more intelligent answer for you during business hours ;-)

Hi Ken,

Thanks for your response! I really do have some more agreement on both sides of the fence now, because he was properly ambiguous, and it is his personal account, etc. etc.

I can also definitely see the point about not being a snitch. Properly, the offended party should have contacted him directly to make his feelings known, especially since we do not know where said employee is in the command structure.

Thanks for the comment! I loved your snark in your post, and will definitely continue reading your blog!

"Ad Age writer Ken Wheaton says @keyinfluencer should have grown some balls." ... That's not exactly what I had in mind when I wrote the piece. But I guess that just goes to show how different people read things.

Again, I get what everyone's saying about tact and public Twittering and Google and stuff. But here's the thing. @keyinfluencer did not mention Memphis and he certainly didn't mention his client or any other identifying marks. So, on the off chance that a consumer or exec WANTED to go looking around to see if someone was bad-mouthing Memphis and FedEx, that Tweet never would have come up.

And again, I think Twitter readers have some responsibility to realize the limits of 140 characters, to consider that they don't necessarily know the whole story behind each tweet and, in particular, not to go running to mama like some kindergarten snitch. As it is, as a journalist, I didn't even want to quote @keyinfluencer's tweets without trying to contact him because of the sort of gray area there -- and the only reason I wrote about it was because it had moved into the more easily recognized public domain of the blogosphere.

Whoever sent that email could have simply emailed @keyinfluencer and said, "Hey. What the hell are you doing talking crap about Memphis? Some of us live here and like it."

Instead, the FedEx employee sent it to the boss and everyone else. Also, SOMEONE leaked it to blogs. So if anyone's responsible for FedEx getting a publicity black-eye on this thing (other than me), it's the FedEx employee.

At any rate, that's all a long-winded way of saying: "Memphis barbecue sucks."
