One Place After The Other Before I See A Home
Staying in one area for a long time is not my thing. That is the reason why I don’t have any furniture of my own. I just have a convertible hand truck, five boxes and a backpack and I move wherever my heart takes me.
One day, I was tired of the bustling City of Manhattan, not to mention the really expensive daily rate of living, I boarded a couple of buses that lead me to Ohio. Then from Ohio, I got myself a map and went to Loraine, wait, is that a woman? It was a really low key area. The first thing I did was looked around for bars that offer jobs because I’m a good bartender. The only establishment I saw that hired me was a diner and the pay was just enough for my beers and motel rent. Food was never a problem as the crew are provided in the diner. Loraine didn’t have many sights. So I stayed there for only a month. The shops there are quite scarce from resources so I gathered all my belongings, some still inside the boxes and my backpack, it was lighter because I had to get rid of the three torn clothes I had. But I was a key chain heavier because I keep a memento of all the towns I’ve lived in.
I loaded my convertible hand truck with my boxes and again headed to the nearest bus station and decided to go to South Dakota. That took me a few days but I landed anyway and set my sight on Winner, still on the basis of the name. It was a quite town and I stayed there for four months, getting a job as a help in a grocery store. After a week in the town I found an apartment where I share with three persons. The town was very accommodating and peaceful. Two weeks in Winner and I had a lot of friends already, I even got invited to family dinners and parties. Perhaps it was my gypsy way of living that had them interested. It was one of the best places I’ve been in that made me feel like I’m at home.
After a while I missed the busy streets of the big city so I grabbed my things again and went on. However my convertible hand truck wont be able to carry all my boxes because I added an additional three. I decided to have a garage sale and put all my things up for sale save for my 75 key chains that represent the 75 towns I’ve tried living in for five years. Just after a long day of selling my stuff I had four boxes left so gathered them all and went on; Jacksonville, Florida was my next stop.
A gypsy like myself is used to simple living so it is very stressful for me to live in a big city like Florida. I’m working as a bartender, a job that I’m good at. After the bar closes at 2, I go out with a few friends I’ve met in just three weeks I’ve been here. I sleep in the morning and then babysit in the afternoon. I need two jobs to live in this City. I’m already thinking about where to take my convertible hand truck next because I am a gypsy to have fun with life, not to work to have fun.
